So a woman signing up for the event I’m running wanted to sign up members of her church as well. I explained that the event is specifically business-focused, and has been for over a decade. We are trying to create sustainable commuting habits for those working outside of the city they live in. A response to urban sprawl, I suppose. She writes me back saying:

I can see that the [name of the event] is more about businesses and schools, but I would think any commute-whether to the supermarket, church, work, etc. should qualify, as it’s all about getting more people to use sustainable transportation options.

Yes, the idea of “Going Green” is about changing everyone’s habits. However, the event that I’m running is not. That’s great that you “would think”, but perhaps harder and not wrong would be a better focus for your thoughts.

I understand that if you are going to spend one day a year making an effort to live sustainably you would want to jam as much of it in there as possible. Feel good for a day, do your part, etc. But shit, don’t tell me what the event “should” be about.
